One of the reasons I haved opened backed headphones instead of some noice-cancelling gadget is that people at work completely ignore you if you are wearing them. This has allowed me to discretely overhear great tidbits like this:
"I want to get all the eggs in a row so when I call M*** I can talk to him intelligent about all this crap."
Is this just me or does anyone else want to share?

I love doing that! I have headphones on almost 100% of my day, but noone ever knows if I'm actually listening to anything (Thank K for bluetooth headphones). I hear stuff all the time.

I wish I had been wearing noise-canceling headphones the day my cubicle neighbors spent 20 minutes discussing their canker sores.

I posted something abotu my noisey new neighbor on the Spree board a couple of months ago...
My friend got me noise canceling headphones for Christmas.
I never overhear anything good, though. Just annoying.
People do walk into my cube all the time and see my headphones and say, "are you on a call?"
Uh, is there a mic on the headset? Then no, I'm probably not.
