so far only listened to track 1 (the yeah yeah yeah song) but i'm in love. LOVE. first song i've truly gotten into since the arcade fire album.

That song makes me sing out loud, punch the air, and dance around.

I was doubtful about that album before I heard it, but then track 1- yeah yeah- got me hoping again. But then track 2 came on. and the rest of the album. Sometimes I like it slightly more than my initial disappointment, but mostly it's a disappointment. Too many noises and bleeps, and not enough tunes/songs. 'Hit to Death...' and every album since then is better than 'Mystics' for me.
My favourite bit in the whole album is in track 7 where the acoustic guitar comes in- just a nice little tune appearing from nowhere.

You know what's kind a bugging me about it? Wayne's voice sounds polished.

he does sound different. maybe thats cause he got sick of people telling him he sounds like tim. (you have to admit there were deffinite similarities... and they both inflect that tone, its not natural)

i didnt come into the album with any expectations. i have learned with more well established artists not to expect anything because they will inevitably have a bunch of great albums, a bunch of albums with some great songs and some fillers, and a bunch of flops. same thing with belle and sebastian, i didnt expect anything and i am really liking their new album. a lot.

in any case i think track 1 makes it worth the $10. i dont mind beepy music so maybe ill love it. ive always liked soft bullitin better than yoshimi. i think yoshimi is almost too catchy in a way...

whatever. anyway you guys should listen to The Life Persuit by bell and sebastian too.

agreed. the ballads don't have the musical interest to be exciting like they did on yoshimi. Catchy tracks are fantastic though.

i didn't care too much for mr ambulance driver when i first heard it but in it's album context it's really grown on me. there's a much darker feel to the album compared to yoshimi, like the hope has been squeezed out by a sense of despair.

Pompeii am Gotterdammerung is the track that i keep going back to, i love the bass line pounding through it and the sense of space in it.

i always thought that the flips were very menacing-sounding. like, behind all the goofy lines, weird noises, and catchy melodies, there was something very sinister-sounding.

i have not heard at war with the mystics yet. waiting to borrow it from the ex-boyfriend. i downloaded it with itunes, but it didn't go through so i figure i'll just wait.

i kind of like the notion that the lips fucked with the formula and threw their listeners a curveball. they were always so good about that...i was starting to think they'd lost that aspect of them.

but methinks the biggest influence? Beck. i'm serious. it sound like what Beck should have done two albums ago.

i like it. it's different. it's not 'soft bulletin' part III. and that's a goodthing.
