Like Mere said, 2004 left me a bit disappointed and heartbroken
Hell, 1972 left me so disappointed and heartbroken that I didn't vote again at all for 12 years! (yeah, and I was right about Nixon, wasn't I, but I'm not bitter) This is the first time since then that I've felt this kind of enthusiasm for an election. I loved Bill Clinton, and he will always have a special place in my heart as the only presidential candidate I ever voted for who actually won, but this time it's different. And I'm hoping to have another name to add to the list of winners that I've voted for - and this time I voted FOR, not just against.

Sy "and it feels good" bil

You know, you and I never agree politically, but I always look forward to what you have to say because you say it well and respectfully, and I loved Clinton all through his terms in office. I only lost favor with him because of Marc Rich, and it was the point where I thought, 'you know, maybe what they said about him was right.'

mr j, I hope that when Obama wins you can use all your smarts to remember that it's not us vs. them, it's just US. McCain just isnt' the right person for the job this time round (and neither is Palin).

i'm going to ignore the subtle condescending tone of the first part of the sentence and state that I agree with you somewhat, and I have always wondered why people who disagreed with Bush made it 'us vs. them,' because, to me, that rang as a bit childish.

it wasn't only the losers who made it us vs them. when bush won(after all the supreme haning chads) the first election there seemed it would be ok, he would just continue the okness the country was going with. then 9-11 then we all united, then afghanastan and we were all still with him. then iraq???? really? iraq? that's where it went south. that's where when i was marching in a peace rally I was told "love it or leave it" and called a "pussy" and all those other things you scream at the opposing team. that's when fox news started calling people like jon stewart and whatever leftist tv folk were out there were pussies and america haters and all that. then there was the 04 election, another very close split down the middle ho-fuck we have to continue being called america haters because we think the leader of our country was an out of control nut job. and it seems you were kind of on that boat, maybe on a dingy next to it. and we were continually told we did not love america.

and now in this election I have heard more from mccain and camp in the form of attack and mocks(think community leader) and very little on what he is actually gonna do.

Ok so I've said before that it's a given that politicians are politicians. But I have no intention of tempering my enthusiasm today, thankyouverymuch!
Regardless of what Obama does in the next two years, I am excited about this election. And if Obama is elected today, it will make me proud of my country. Hell, I'm already proud of my country, and I don't always feel that way. So I'll keep my enthusiasm and you can keep your pragmatism and I guarantee my day's gonna be better than yours.

It's not about one man, it's about our country. And you know, for me, aside from the fact that I think he'll be a good president, I think the fact that we may actually be capable of walking the walk when it comes to equality in this country is worth celebrating.

If he loses, at least my inner dialogue about whether to drive my car off the road on the way home will be interesting.

No, actually, I think I'm quite accustomed to disappointment in this area, and honestly, McCain will do a hell of a better job than Bush. So yeah, like I said - appreciate your concern but I'm good with being happy today.

team usa :D

that's the bottom line many many Americans are feeling excited about something we haven't had in very long time...a good presidential choice. Not only is Obama a democrat he's a decent man that inspires people to do good.

McCain doesn't represent nor do I think he cares about me as an American. he's out to make the rich, richer and screw the rest of us along the way. His platform message for this election has been wafflely at best and it's been going downhill for sometime and this was done by him and his campaign. Obama had nothing to do with McCain's downward spiral. Bad decision and hateful tactics will lead to McCains loss.

And if McCain wins...though I SERIOUSLY doubt that happening. I'll be the first to CRY FOUL because that my friend is the ONLY way he can win this election. Dirty dirty tricks.

And, really, if Obama had sat it out in Congress another term or two, I'd seriously have considered voting for him.
i'mbitingmytonguei'mbitingmytonguei'mbitingmytongueOKAYNOIMNOT

this isn't exactly directed at you since i don't know who you voted for. but i find it laughably hypocritical that republicans that support a mccain/PALIN ticket are still saying obama doesn't have enough experience for the position.

and i think it's amazing the amount of young people who are inspired by obama. i know several people who didn't care enough to vote in the 2004 election who realized the error of their ways and are voting. who they vote for doesn't really matter to me, i think it's great that people are being inspired to go out and vote. and honestly, in the younger demographic, it's obama they're voting for. i like that people my age and younger aren't seeing futility in the voting process. yeah, we're one vote, but we WANT to go vote for obama.

and i'm not a hippie liberal democrat either. i'm essentially a libertarian.

if obama loses, i'll be devastated. but following this election has made me interested in politics and excited for where the country is going. i will be more active in following the decisions and policies of our government. i will applaud where i see good change and dissent with my voice raised when i see something bad. the inspiration to get in there and make a difference is what obama has personally done for me, and even if he loses (and i disagree it will be as close as 2000), i will carry that with me for a lifetime.
