were any of you old-school forkers at this show in 1991?

If it looks like a fork and it quacks like a fork...

true, but i can kinda see the reason why the guy did that. if you notice, kurt quite obviously slams his guitar into the guy's head.

I know why yes. I don't think it was intentional though. It also reminds me of a Tripping Daisy show at, yep, Trees: I believe the last. In fact, security stopping quite a few shows at trees seem to be the norm in the early 90's.

I remember thinking at the time that Kris Novaselic was gonna smash the guys head open and it was gonna be a brawl. I was in the back and quite intent to stay there.

Also, it reminds me of the first show that the spree played at the granada. people getting thrown out for no reason by dickhead security. they were giving the band shit backstage for the stupidest thing. I had lost my car keys at one point, and the head of security was obviously trying to pick a fight with me! anyway, i found my keys, but it seemed like every person backstage had some sort of complaint against the "security". I thought it'd be the last show at the granada. Actually, it would have been had that guy that owns the CD Source not bought it...

wow. was that the 'homecoming' show? i had tickets to that, but i couldn't make it, and i later heard that it was considered one of the spree's worst shows, from the sound to the attitude of the club.

as for the nirvana show, i had heard that that night, kurt had taken some benadryl and washed it down with booze and was speeding like crazy. i found out about their show that morning and would have been there in a heartbeat, but the show was sold out.

I remember hearing the reason he dived into the crowd was because he couldn't hear shit coming through his monitor and also the management oversold the show by a long way so he was pissed off...

I actually remember when I was about 8 or 9 and had no idea about nirvana then my school friends told me that this guy called kurt cobain actually hired bodyguards just so he could beat them up on stage...obviously a twisted version of this incident...

nothing beats the Tripping Daisy show in Waco. Halfway through, security decided that it was too rowdy (it is Waco after all) and teargassed the venue.

Boy, that was fun.

that show was WAAAAY oversold. In fact, I think the only one that came close was one of the Toadies shows just after "Possum Kingdom" became a hit and a lot of b-rate football players decided moshing was fun. I was along the back wall, out of the way but in trees, the action was never far away. that show still ruled though, especially when you're 17 and underage for that particular show.

as for the granada show, yeah, it wasn't the best. it's hard to sound good from front to back in that room, and playing with a 24 person band intent on playing at 11 the entire time doesn't help.

Hah, and I thought the security guard flogging the crowd with a home-made cat-o-nine-tails at babyshambles (groan) a couple of years ago was bad.
and no, i wasn't there.

i remember seeing toby fly off the stage like a superhero at the granada show to go save tinker who was being strangled by a security guard (wtf?) for trying to go up to the stage to talk to toby while they were setting up. the show hadnt even started yet!!! fucking security guards. they have ultimate cop complex bc theyre "im control" but dont actually have guns or anything to make them feel powerful so they have to take it out on anyone who looks like a hoodlum.

that contributed heavily to our mood that night. i saw that, and wasn't particularly happy about it. when we complained to security, they were the same prick-ish arseholes to us, and it was as if they were trying to instigate something with us. It was stupid. I think the venue was told that was the last time we were playing there as well.

of course, the sound was another issue. I'm sure Dave was doing all he could (he is, after all, the most important person in the spree organisation), but that shit just happens, and we did him no favours.
