Two, (r) and (l). This is a cipout answer because I have waaay too many to count.
Having worked for the same company since before I even moved out of my parents' house, I honestly cannot even begin to comprehend what James is feeling today. Can you relate to him, and why?

More than I care to. At my previous job, half the office got called into the large conference room. We knew it was coming but when I saw who else was in the room, I thought I was in the good group. I was wrong.
When laid off, would you:
1) Pack your stuff as quickly as possible and leave.
2) Storm out immediately and get your stuff later.
3) Stay for the afternoon to fax your resume, etc.

If there's one thing The Man is good about, it's giving a nice severance package when you become redundant.
In your haste to move along and put your wallet away, have you ever forgotten your food at a drive through window or your cash at an ATM?

No, I don't think so.
And I vote you shouldn't buy your boss stuff if you don't like her. In those situations, the most that is expected is that if somone ELSE is getting something you shuold chip in a few bucks. Even a card seems excessive to me, unless you're on the "birthday committee" or some such nonsense.
