oh I'm still explaining the difference to friends over there..."no, we say native american, indians are from india...etc.".That's funny, because when people speak of Asians here, they generally mean Indian Sub-Continent folk. Confused the hell out of me for about a year.I think you mean Orientals. Orientals live in the country of Asia.the asian-race people

Wow. I didn't realize it was still in common usage over there. I found most people in Asia hated the term "oriental". ("I'm not a rug!") They preferred asian or, like you said, their country of origin.yeah, although they generally prefer to use the actual country that their from....you hear oriental but mostly i hear people refer to people as japanese, chinese, thai, etc...
I don't hear it as often in the States as I once did.
