i don't know which is worse: completely ignoring someone because they're different from you or trying to make them exactly like you?

I go with ignoring. Having people try to convert you may be a pain in the ass on many levels, but at least they think you are worth saving.

My opinion, it's a church but not a religion. More specifically, it is a shelter for intellectuals and pseudo-intellectuals who don't believe in anything in particular. This makes them particularly uncomfortable among people who don't appear to be slack-jawed yokels and yet have genuine beliefs.
