tell me music

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

There is a fine line between country (johnny cash) and country (dixie chicks). Which is it?
Closer to the folk side of things.

Sufjan in London tonight, woo. (umm, some Sufjan mentions in here, so this thread will do) With St Vincent (miss Annie Clark) as support, but not too sure what I make of her songs, but shall see live.

it's just he's so anti-pop star. Everytime I've seen them live he's so visibly uncomfortable; it's the keyboard player that interacts with the audience while he stands over to the side and sings the songs. Yet, there are so many people from many walks of life obsessed with them...truly obsessed...and that's usually the recipe.

Plus, I've heard it a bit in the lyrics..."there is this side of me that wants to grab the yoke from the pilot and just crash the whole thing into the sea" is the one that comes to mind. I can't think of any others off the top of my head, and I need to listen to this new one a bit more, but first impressions were no different.

I'm just looking out for the next Jim Ellison is all....(from Material Issue; check out that guys story sometime...) I could be wrong about it all...

:P

Dysoman/Paul somehow got himself a job helping do the setting up for Sufjan Stevens! Was a shock to see him there. The Spree were obviously his stepping board thingy, coo.

WOW - I couldnt disagree more...I "Happened upon" the new shins album a couple weeks ago and I think its great.

I thought it was pretty good the first time I listened to it, but now after listening to it about 50,000 times, I LOVE IT.

But then, I've always been a bit off

As for Mercer, I agree he doesnt fit the "mold" of lead singer of a band, but I dont think that should necessarily make him lesser of a musician because he doesnt really look comfortable. He's got that same "look" that Michael Stipe had on stage early on...not really comfortable in the position he was in. But I think he rawks.
