I've even heard a song about this...by some band called cobra brothers...or something like that.

in fact a friend went to the premier and someone unloaded about a couple of hundred fake rubber snakes during a crucial moment....ACK!

Cobra Starship, I believe. the song is called "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)" and it features members of The Academy Is..., The Sounds and Gym Class Heroes. the video is on the myspace. it's pretty hilarious.
