Good Records manager reported dead! (not true)

Postby Sybil » Fri Jul 28, 2006 4:59 pm

Did anyone else see this story? Rather funny...now.
Chris Penn is not dead.

The Good Records and Polyphonic Spree manager said so himself Thursday after reading about his supposed death on TexasGigs.com.

A staff report Thursday on the Dallas music news site referenced a couple of other sites in reporting that Mr. Penn, 35, had died.

"Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," Mr. Penn said in a phone interview from Good Records. "We've been getting tons of calls. When I read [the post] this morning, I laughed so hard that now I have a headache."

The TexasGigs information referenced a post by Amanda Newman at FineLineLive.com, in which she wrote about the recent loss of close friend Cameron Phelan, who went by the nickname "Ceepe." Ms. Newman runs Fine Line with Cindy Chaffin, who left TexasGigs in June and now contributes to Quick.

TexasGigs connected Chris Penn with "Ceepe." Mr. Penn uses the name "CeePee" when DJing at area nightclubs. Blair Lovern, a TexasGigs staff member, said by e-mail that the report was "a calamitous error on our part." A correction was posted on the site.

Mr. Penn says he was more amused by the report than angered.

"I actually called my wife to let her know I was alive," Mr. Penn said.

Yea. I posted that on the Spork forum this morning after reading it in the Quick. I'm actually kind of surprised it got that much press.

I was sure the mix-up would have been caused by actor Chris Penn's death.

Didn't you see Mission: Impossible #1? It was a biopic about Mr. J.

You can rearrange the letters in the name Ethan Hunt to form Mister Joseph. That's what tipped me off, at least.
