Updated.

I got your Birm->Atlanta ticket, too, finally.

If I am not doing the family July 4th thing, I can take you to the Lakewood thing. Is it an actual event? Or just neighbors hanging out on the street? Sam has lived in Lakewood for 4 years and he'd never heard of it. . .

ALSO --
I got 4 free Six Flags tickets from our sales contact at work. Me, Sam, the British kid. . . who wants the 4th freebie?

MT: It's that Lakewood, the greatest nieghborhood in Dallas, and the parade goes through the residential area, down Lakewood Boulevard through all the big pretty, houses with all the sweet families.
me: yay
MT: I have a good friend who's third generation Lakewood, her family is huge in the community, I'll get her to make you a Lakewood Fourth of July Parade Intenerary.

I really want to meet Steve when he's here, and I'm beginning to worry that he will die before I get a chance! All these outdoor activities in the Texas summer heat - I'm getting concerned that Steve's pale English body will be chicken-fried and roasted.

Seriously, the heat here can be quite a shock, even dangerous, especially to one not acclimated, so please be careful out there. Drink lots of water, stay in the shade as much as possible, concentrate on the water rides at Six Flags, and USE SUNSCREEN. Remember to re-apply after swimming or other physical activities that might cause sweating, you know like breathing while in the sun.

Sy "I found the English summer to be bone-chillingly cold, I can only imagine what the reverse perspective might be - thank goodness for air conditioning" bil

Word up.

The worst thing is to get sick or burned on one of your first days and spend the rest of your time slathered in cold cream and puking.

That reminds me of when I went to Europe my senior year, and this girl who was on the trip got her tongue pierced on the second day of the trip (I guess she was under 18 and her parents wouldn't let her do it?). So the dumb broad could hardly eat or talk the entire time we were in Europe.

Yeah. My sister went to Fla. for spring break one year and got sun poisoning. To this day she is VERY sunsensitive because of it - BE CAREFUL.
(And real aloe vera gel is the best thing you can slather on a sunburn. I know.)

i disagree! aloe can be very soothing, yes, but a lot of gels or creams will actually hold the heat in your burn and make it more painful in the long run. i find that the best thing for a sunburn is to make tea and dip cotton balls in the tea once it's cool and rub it all over your burn. you can take baths in it, too. you get all sticky, but it cools your skin so quickly and feels amaaaazing.

Old home remedies are still usually the best - cold water bath with vinegar in the water will take the sting right out of that sunburn. It's the same principle as a burn from the stove, you stick your hand in cold water to reduce the severity of the burn.

Why did you just do that?

Dang it. Huitzilopochtli will now require a sacrifice of a sixer of Tacate, charizo burritos and a skinny, pale, shorts-wearing british kid.

i don't do it on purpose, believe me. if i'm in direct sunlight for 20 minutes, call the hospital and tell them to get their burn cream ready. i haven't worn a tank top in almost five years because of an awful burn i got on my back that sent me to the hospital and left scars on me that you can still see today.

I understand. I just said that for the sake of your skin. :)

Steeeeeeeeeve,

When do you arrive? Flight #? Airline?

I need to figure out airport info and whether I go in to work on Thursday or not.
