"Why The World Loves Soccer"

I thought about making it "shport" in general, but I really don't care about the others.

Pick up a copy of this month's National Geographic, or just read the article here:http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/ ... index.html

Good article. On the subject of sport and society, I would suggest Take Time for Paradise. It is a quick read and really interesting. Turns out, sport is society in a way that art can never be. It is mostly about baseball, but it has a similar reverence as the NG article.

The more I'm in this country, the more I'm convinced it should be called Football. American Football should be about the USA Football team (meaning soccer). American Football is just a bastardised version of rugby, and has little to do with the foot. They should just call it NFL or something, and I love the game...

I kind of like that it is not universal; Rugby, Australian Rules, Gaelic, American, association...

My experience with Cowboys and UT fans would lead me to agree with you, though. My experience with Eagles, SEC and Big Ten fans points otherwise.
