it's weird, i was watching a game the other week where the keeper almost did the same thing but the ball scuffed off his shin and went wide. like that one, i couldn't help but wonder why the keeper didn't trap the ball and then boot it, given there were no attacking players to put him under pressure. at least gary neville's scored in an international match now :twisted:

best own goal i ever saw was nick crittenden playing for chelsea reserves (including a young jon terry) against millwall reserves (cahill, ifill etc) - he booted the ball back towards the keeper from the halfway line, only the keeper wasn't anywhere near the goal and couldn't get back in time to stop it going in. ended up chelsea 0.5 millwall.

in robinsons defense, the ball does take a crazy bounce just as he swings his leg. though as eebs said, he should have first trapped the ball. there was no reason to hurry or force the play.
