What'd you think? I thought it was pretty stunning but the story was meh, and I have no desire to see it again.

And, subquestion -- with her roles in both Star Trek and Avatar, is Zoe Saldana now the queen of the sci-fi fan fantasies?

(EDIT - oops, probably shoudl have put this in Tuning Fork. Sorry!)

Haven't seen Avatar yet, but it will be very hard to dethrone Milla Jovovich as the queen of sci-fi movies

I would put Milla Jovovich in a different category of sci-fi queen, but definitely not appealing to the kind of kids we were when Star Wars was fresh and wonderful. There is the potential for Saldana to be working at the Princess Leah level for the tykes with a couple more Trek installments.

As for Avatar, I recommend it. However, my opinion slipped quite a bit once I heard it described as "cowboys and indians in space". Visually, it really is a whole and complete world. You can even see him going back to fix ideas from Aliens that he must've grown disappointed with. Now I'm wondering if the Alien timeline could exist along with Avatar. That's a serious digression.

James Cameron has no business screwing with the timeline/story of the expanded Alien universe. That was pretty much solidified by Mark Verheiden and, later, John Arcudi.

Only wondering if they were non-contradictory, not co-incident.

The level of geeky here is making my head spin. Only to be exceeded by the fellow Diana knows who has already seen Avatar several times and is busily learning Na'Vi. Yes, of course, he works at Gamestop where he can be among his own kind.

I was entertained but not impressed.

Of course the visuals were stunning but still unhappy with the Na'vi character design (still think blue thundercats!)

The story was pretty much Dances with Wolves in space!
