The album haul so far this year (thoughts?)

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

Gutter Twins sounds like Dust-era Screaming Trees meeting Afghan Whigs' 1965, with Dulli and Lanegan swapping vocal duties. it's dark, dark, dark--very bluesy, but very sultry and sexy, too.

i don't get the fuss over the national's boxer. i listened to it a few times, mostly it just made me sleepy. people sure do love it, though. to each his own!

i, however, heart the following of your list:

stars - set yourself on fire
asobi seksu - citrus
the raconteurs - consolers of the lonely
anything sigur ros has ever done
mgmt - oracular spectacular

the rest of it, i mostly haven't heard so i should probably get on it. what are your faves of the list?

The Gutter Twins album is very good indeed, it very much the Lanegan/Dulli crossover that you would expect. Very dark and melancholy at the same time.

Oh, Boxer is a brilliant album in my opinion. Alligator is also very good. Out of that list, my favourites so far are:

The National ~ Boxer

The Duke Spirit ~ Neptune
Death Cab for Cutie ~ Narrow Stairs - A stunning album. I was surprised at how good it is.

yeah, i have tried really hard to get into that album, but it just never resonated with me. i wanted to like it cause so many people whose opinion i respect were all, "OMG THIS ALBUM" but it just never got there for me. maybe i'll try again. (this happens every time someone brings up the album, tbh.)

and i haven't heard the death cab album, i hated "plans" which was their previous attempt, but their earlier stuff makes me melt. we do hear the song "i will possess your heart" on the sirius college rock channel a lot, and i do like it. loves me some ben gibbard. guess i'm gonna give this one a spin, i'll letcha know how it grabs me.

I've got Plans, and I think its okay - the best song is obviously "I will possess your heart" - but their new album is such a leap forward. I was very taken aback with how good it is.

if i hadn't loved dcfc before, i think i would have liked "plans," but i felt like it had a bit of that "sell-out" quality to it. i hate when people say a band sold out, though, so i guess i'll say i felt like it took a step in the more commercial direction and focused a lot less on the lyrics than previous dcfc albums. gibbard's writing is one of the main reasons i love the band, he has a way of saying things that evoke a deeply emotional response from me.

i've got the new album now, gonna fling an ear around that today.

have a look in the liner notes; I want to say Rick Nelson played on that Gutter Twins album...I know he was working with them on something...

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
I just bought this after hearing 'Kids' playing in the record store. OMK it's insanely catchy.
The best things in life are truely free
Singing birds and laughing bees
You got me wrongs says he
