I'm sick of everything right now, except for Leonard Cohen's greatest hits, Lou Reed (Transformer), Nina Simone, and some random songs (namely Oh, You Pretty Thing! and Grass, by Animal Collective).

Tell me things to buy or download. I bought the new Dylan. Eh. I need something either fast and catchy (driving music) or with really good lyrics, depressing, a la Nina Simone. Or just anything good. I'm desperate. Make me extensive lists, please.

guilty pleasure of the week (I even got squeezle hooked) is My Chemical Romance's new record The Black Parade. It's pretty snappy.

Methinks a mix disc might be in order.

Or..my roommate's uncle wrote a bunch of poetry/songs and then died. But his friends and family created a band, fleshed out the sound a bit and quirked things up and out. The band's name is Ed's Redeeming Qualities. They use a lot of violin and ukulele. I like them. A lot. I'd have to send you these myself, though.

We are psyched to be just three months away from the release of our new record, "Wincing The Night Away". The first single, "Phantom Limb", featuring two non-album tracks as a B-side, will be coming out next month.

here are some things i'd recommend:

Boduf Songs Live on VPRO (folky, sad stuff that's a little bit like Elliott Smith but not really)

Fairwood Singers -- a new band by my friend allen clapp, it's really great. You should check out his other band, The Orange Peels, and his solo stuff is really good, too.

Tanya Donelly has a new album out, and it's simply wonderful.

I might also recommend the new Nellie McKay. I think you'd dig it.

Is it just me, or do you guys go through music phases? Like all summer all I wanted was catchy stuff; either shitty pop music or the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song or Arcade Fire-type fast indie rock. Last month I only wanted the Small Faces and the Kinks. Now I want singer/songwriter-y stuff. And sometimes I'll go a whole week only wanting to hear one song... and not necessarily a catchy one or one that's new to me, but in August I listened to Old Man by Neil Young several times a day. Now it's Suzanne by Leonard Cohen. And at some point it's been almost every Bob Dylan song. Weird...

I definitely go through phases; sometimes they don't last very long and sometimes they go on for months. Sometimes they happen at the same time. If you're in singer-songwriter mode, seriously check out Richard Buckner's "Meadow". I think it's his best album in a long, long time.
