a) James, you express passion while you play. Or at least you did at the few shows I saw before I actually knew you (when I was unbiased). I was biased after that, so I don't know.

b) You actually wrote good music, so you don't fall into the "incredibly technically skilled, but plays boring acoustic-y vomit" category. You also weren't in a band filled with technically skilled by direction-less musicians.

c) You don't play a typical rock instrument. Yours is not very conducive to making eye contact with the audience whilst singing... It doesn't afford the same kind of visual enthusiasm as guitar or drums since you have to actually control your breathing.

Plus, I'm saying all of this just to say it, not because I think we will travel back in time to a T. Rex concert. Ideally, people would only go to concerts because the bands expressed some sort of passion that they could relate to and the shitty bands wouldn't make any money and would be weeded out. But that's in my dream world. Natural selection of good musicians is not possible with MTV and MTV2 and the internet, so I have to wade through boring crap in search of something that will excite me. Oh well.
