what's your favorite one-hit wonder song?

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

As for Semisonic, I liked the previous band a bit better: Trip Shakespeare. What a great band.
Haha, I remember that your roommate Todd love(d) them. :)

I had no idea they were related to Semisonic. . .

Dan Wilson aka the main singer/songwriter, was the brother of Matt Wilson who was the brains of Trip Shakespeare. When Matt went solo, everyone thought it was going to be Matt that hit the big time. Dan was an artist first (has a degree from Harvard in art), so it shocked everyone that he was the one that did it. Despite that song being a mega hit and a lot of people I know wanting to shoot things when it comes on, i still like it. And I think that album is really good.

My favorite is always going to be one of those songs that comes on the radio that I haven't heard for a long time. And it'll be that way until the next long lost one-hit wonder is played.
I can relate.
Jack makes fun because whenever that happens I always say, "Aw...this is the best song EVER!"

Did Gary Numan ever do anything successful before or after Cars?

Could you calculate this by dividing singles sales by total sales? Maybe a ratio of average chart position would be more accurate.

Modern English - I Melt With You

and slightly more obscure

Nails - 88 Lines About 44 Women
I agree with Modern English there,

I doubt the Buggles ever had a hit after "Video Killed the Radio Star"

Yep. And "You Better Run" by Pat Benetar was the second one.
