One of my friends has gone straight edge...

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

...11 days and counting. He's substituting all his vices with coffee.

i once went to this straight edge party dahn sauf. funniest night ever. all those hardcore kids took themselves so seriously. they all had crosses on their hands and stuff, didn't take too kindly to the smily face on mine. they didn't understand recreational drinking concepts at all, not even a glass of wine with their meals. they sat around talking about bane and drinking coffee. i was asked to leave when i pointed out caffine was a drug.

I didn't know the kids still did the straight edge thing. That being said, I listened to/screamed at the top of my lungs Minor Threat on my way home from work today.

I never really understood this. If its about personal character, then just don't drink, etc. If you need a support group to make doing what you believe in seem cool, then how deep is your belief? Or is it just a symptom of kids looking for an "identity"?

i say do what you want, but don't try to shove that shit down everyone else's throats. i find that most straightxedge kids want to yell about how evil you are for drinking or smoking some reefer or whatever. chill out and do your own thing but don't yell at me for doing mine.

Man, if I substituted coffee for all my vices, I'd be a bigger nut and even more crazed than I am now.

Proving beyond all doubt that they're morons.

I've never known any straight edge kids - or adults or any straight edge anythings. I'm considering myself lucky.

I've never known any straight edge (adults).
They're called recovering alcoholics or mormons.

My big brother's a Mormon. My mom and I made him take us to the liquor store in Utah to buy box wine. It's good when mom backs up your right to drink.

Can it be injected ala the Carlsbad Grimple?

Now, I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking that their beliefs are extremely deep. I mean, just so unbelievably, insanely, mind-blowingly deep that the average citizen could not even begin to comprehend it all. I'm thinking that a person would have to go through several years of intense training, similar to that of the Navy SEALs, to be able to understand just exactly how beliefy these straightxedge kids are.

We're talking DEEP FRIED TWINKIE DEEP.
