Islands
Anybody been listening to Return to the Sea by Islands? It's better than Unicorns, and frankly i think its one of the best albums of the year so far...

It's hard to draw the line between Islands and The Unicorns.
They're obviously two extremely similar bands. Just because you take Alden Penner out of the mix doesn't mean things are going to be that different. Depending on the day, I can see Islands as a completely different band. Different sound -- different message -- just different. On others, I'm convinced that Return to the Sea could easily be The Unicorns' sophomore album. And why not? Bands have made larger leaps in their sound than this gap, after all.
Have you heard what the hell Alden is doing, Mr. Pitchfork? I heard he was playing solo (in Canada, perhaps?) at small bars and clubs and such but I didn't know if he had recorded an EP or anything.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you and the schreib probably had large differences in musical taste...i didn't like Unicorns at all, but someone sent me a copy of Islands' debut, and I liked the first song. The rest? I simply can't dig. But that first song....

not really, no. at least i don't think we did. he always dug the stuff i wrote and the bands i supported, but then again, most of my dealings at p4k happened with a great fellow named brian roberts. don't get me started on the woman who replaced him, nanette, though (AKA miss 'the music you're covering is TOO independent--whoever heard of alejandro escovito?'/'i dont think we're interested in the weird side projects of failed alt-rock one hit wonders'/'try to think a little more mainstream in terms of the artists you're covering-')i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you and the schreib probably had large differences in musical taste...
