Nirvana. I have been obsessed since the age of 11/12, the first four records I bought were In Utero, Incesticide, Nevermind and Bleach. I can't quite describe how important Nirvana were in shaping my taste in music and attitudes towards music as art.
Thank fuck it wasn't Pearl Jam anyways!

It reminds me of skating at the skating rink on Saturday mornings. Juice is amazing; she has a way with a song! I dig her mega-hit cover of "Angel of the Morning" and I like her "It's a Heartache," too...Why not?! Man, Juice Newton was amaaaaaaaaazing!I'm not proud of this
Queen of Hearts reminds me of feeding calves from bottles with my cousins or getting my haircut with my grandfather.

what's wild is that the Sugarcubes are #4 on my list. the other two being The Pixies and Galaxie 500. I bought records at this place in Carrolton, it was in a strip mall, it wasn't very big but it was very deep. It was next to a pizza joint. What was the name of it?The Sugarcubes. I saw them on SNL (US debut) and was immediately intrigued by their unique sound. I went out that Sunday and bought up their album. None of my friends liked it at all and really thought they would fade away. These same damn people are all Bjork-heads now. Fucking hypocrites.
Was it on the corner of Trinity Mills & Midway?
I work close by and can tell you the name tomorrow.

Re: What was the first band you....
I think the first band I obsessed over was Nine Inch Nails.
I caught the video for wish on Headbanger's Ball in '92 and none of my friends at the time heard of them (I also went to Greiner Middle School in Oak Cliff, I think the popular music there was gangsta rap and or tejano)
Anyway, I was intrigued by the whole Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome look and the sound was something I haven't heard at the time!

I think he meant k29 -- it was at Trinity Mills and Josey, next to the Target. It is long gone.

Bob Dylan, age 15, end of freshman year. Listened to It's Alright, Ma on repeat for days, read the entire collected lyrics in a week, and never looked back.
