My younger brother is moving to San Antonio and starting college next month. All of the on-campus housing is completely full, so I've been trying to help him find a place to live. My mother keeps mentioning the fact that he could move in with me, so I REALLY need to find a place soon. I'm hoping he can find a house or large apartment to share with some other college kids. I don't think living alone would be a good idea. I've been searching ads in the paper and craigslist, with not much luck. I was wondering if y'all had any advice or resources for finding roommates. Maybe there's some other craigslist-esque thing I haven't heard about.

Most colleges and universities offer services to help students find off-campus housing, so I would call your brother's college. You may also want to physically go there and check the bulletin boards. Usually, there's lots of "Roomate Wanted" signs all over the place.

i think he should find a place to live himself. but i'm a bitch like that. #1 step in living independently -- find housing.

but it is nice that you are helping. jb has a good suggestion, i think. one that i would pass along to my brother.

i'd kill myself if i had finally gotten to the point of going off to college and then i ended up right back having to live with my sibling.

i'm with froggy. but you should be able to call the school and ask if there is nearby housing. they should be able to help at least point your brother in the right direction.

I lived with my brother for one year during college (along w/ 2 other guys in a 2 bedroom apartment). I really wasn't so bad. Sure, we got into a few scuffles, but I think that is to be expected.

All-in-all, it was rather fun.

I have a step-nephew who should be a sophmore there next month (unless he got into UT Austin by some divine intervention). I'm not sure of his housing plans -his freshman year he had an apartment all to himself. (He's his mama's favorite.) I'll see what I can find out though.

If he can live with you temporarily, dorm availability ususally increases during the first semester since some students leave for one reason or another. Lots of universities end up with over-crowding and at U of Iowa my brother's first year, kids were sleeping in student lounges until rooms became available.

Otherwise the bullitin board sounds good (or they may have a roomate hotline of some sort at the school to hook people up).

Nothing like a little taste of semi-homelessness to motivate you to finish school!

Any reason in particular you don't think he should live alone? I've always perfered it that way.
