hahahaha!
I think the no white before memorial day rule has been rescinded.
That said, screaming white/white shoes should never be worn period, unless you're in a wedding. (I don't care if they're making a comeback.)

Haha, Memorial day is the last Monday in May, and its purpose is to honor those Americans who have fought and died serving their country. Of course, it's really an excuse for a three day weekend, and a chance to drink beer and eat barbecue.

I think this is just an old Southern thing, but traditionally, you are not supposed to wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day (You have Labor Day in the UK, right?). I was just wondering if anyone still adhered to the old rule.

Where the option for, "No, it's not okay, but that's what makes you a rebel. Yr a Forker, damn it!!!"

If I choose to wear white in the off season, I try to be very conscious of the bold decision I am making, and ask myself if it is really worth it. Sometimes it is.

As long as it's not white shoes. White shoes are only EVER permissable with a wedding dress. I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

Sybil

p.s. Before you complain, I'm talking dress shoes here, not trainers or sneakers or flip flops.

How about Doc Martens? I've got me a pair of these here stormtrooper boots that I don't wear very often, but I wear them yearround.

I read Miss Manners almost every day (I love her), and today she responded to a lady who wanted to know EXACTLY what time it became okay to wear white. She wasn't sure if she could wear white on Memorial Day weekend, or if she had to wait until Memorial Day. Miss Manners says that you have to wait until 12:00am on Monday to wear white. I normally take her advice to heart, but I think that's a bit silly.

Well, they're perfectly dreadful, but if you're wearing white stormtrooper boots I'm thinking maybe etiquette isn't high on your list of priorities.

See, I can let white shoes go. The real crime is white panty hose. If you are between the ages of 8 and 80, I don't care what season it is, that just looks dumb.
