.net vs. .com

Postby mere1975 » Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:34 am

So my aunt sent me a link to my cousin's new web site.

He's trying to start his own business, she said.

She sent me the URL with a .com extension -- but it's really .net. What a difference that can make!

geez. I really wish people would think more before registereing .net names. He probably didn't think that about 60% of his traffic is going to be going to the .com website before his. That could be really damaging to his startup.

Oh, I totally agree.

He's a hippie/rocker/biker type of guy who loves to fish, surf and drink beer. He has a biology degree and spent the last 10 years testing creek water in Florida -- I don't think he's very business savvy.

Does he pronouce decor like dEcor? With the accent on the e, like it's written on the web site? Or is he abusing grammar?

Don't know -- haven't spoken to him in person since about 1994.

But I am pretty sure this is not how you say "we speak Spanish" -- "Hablamos Español." Isn't it reflexive: se habla Espanol? Spanish is spoken? Anyway.

"Hablamos Español."
I've noticed this being used more and more. I wonder if it's like secret signage to let folks know "Yeah. We really, really speak Spanish."

I just remember in high school Spanish, we were all tempted to say "Yo hablo Espanol" but that was incorrect.

But maybe?
