I wanted to research the dentist I just signed up for, and I realized he has the same name as a convicted serial killer also known as the Night Stalker.

Elaine dated a guy whose name was the same as a serial killer. She convinced him to change it, and the debated about a lot of different options. . . but I can't remember how it ended.

I'm going to sound like a total nerd, but I cried when I heard this. Studs Terkel has been one of my heroes for a long, long time. While I might not have agreed with some of the things he said and the things that he believed, I have to say that he was a brilliant man who could easily make you think, and could make the most mundane individual sound interesting. He had a way of making a person who might not seem to be much of anything sound like someone you want to know. His book Working is totally brilliant and fascinating.

Actually, he wrote his own obituary, and made a book out of it. It's called Hope Dies Last:Keeping the Faith In Difficult Times, though he lived five years later. His writings on the jazz age are fascinating, too.

A toast to one of the few people I can truly say I am sad I never had a chance to speak to.

Mere, I folowed that wiki link and spent 20 minutes reading about that guy, then I was creeped out all night. I'm sure I'd heard of the guy before, but reading the stories of victim after victim, uh. Probably didn't help that I watched Red Dragon last night too.

Halloween is way more fun when you actually have trick or treaters show up. I've never had more than like 2 before, and last night I had to send J to the store for more candy. It was awesome.

And I don't wanna change my name, but I have always wondered if I would be a slightly different kind of person if I had a name like Rachel or Susan, something 'normal-y.' I once knew a girl named Regan, and I thought it was actually a cool name, but you know, that actor guy screwed it up. Plus now that I think about it she made out with my boyfriend. So yeah Regan's a name for assholes.

Like right now I'm thinking, "who the heck is Studs Terkel?"

wow this post ended up kinda rambly.

I wish I had known you needed candy. I have 2 big bags left over since we only had 12(!) trick-or-treaters this year. (We had more like 50-60 last year.)

I appreciated the city of Richardson guys for staying til 9 p.m. on a Friday night to fix the water leak down the street, but their mess scared away all of our neighborhood kids I guess. And our house looked good too, with polka dotted jack o'lanterns and candles all over the place.
