A series of large explosions at a liquefied natural gas plant sent a shower of flaming debris on nearby freeways and buildings near downtown Wednesday.
A half-mile area surrounding the blasts was being evacuated. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Video footage showed numerous small fires burning in the area as the blasts continued. There were stacks of gas cylinders on fire that continued to catch fire and explode.
Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda said officers were controlling traffic around the area and that Interstate 35E was shut down.
Despite hazy skies, a black column of smoke was visible from at least 10 miles away.
