you can't say forgiveness without fər-g*, which, in some regional dialects, is pronounced as "fôr-g," and with a dialect that pronounces soft g's as 'k,' these folks make it sound an awful lot like "fork." so there's nothing soft about being quick to forgive. besides, we have a greater enemy.
