can I vote in a primary if I'm not registered with that party? does that affect who I can vote for in the general election?

yes, no.

you can vote in either (but only one) primary for presidential candidate (or for that matter governor).

and no, your vote in the primary does not limit your vote in the general election.

edit: at least in tx.

Okay, so my minute by minute coverage may have left something to be desired, but I took a lot of notes, and will be posting my comments later on after I get home from work.

A very exciting debate kicking off what is certain to be a fascinating election.

I'm an American, I don't vote in primaries, I just bitch later because the choices all suck.

Good for you for educating yourself and giving a shit. We need more citizens like you, less like me. I would actually be interested in your take, maybe you'll inspire me to vote in the primary. Probably not though, those damn corn farmers are the only ones whose primary vote counts.

That is, by the way, a Texas thing. It's not like that everywhere.

I voted in the Republican primary my first time so I could vote against Ronald Reagan. (It didn't work.)
