I still can hardly believe what happened on 9-11; it will always affect us. The affect it had on lot of people is that they're willing to believe a lot of nonsense in order to feel safe. We'll recover our sanity eventually, though. I just hope it doesn't continue to get worse before it gets better. I have more hope now that GB's days are numbered. It's still a way out but it feels like a possible light at the end of the tunnel.

The first step isn't admitting that you are a fascist?
I think one missing ingredient is a way of replacing personal identity with national identity. Isn't that the heart of fascism? It's happening too slowly now to overwhelm our thankfully slow political process. Another of the right kind of crises could certainly change that.
It is probably important to remember that a free, open and democratic society in the US is an ideal. It hasn't yet been acheived. It's just that we are moving away from it rather than toward it these days.
