DIYers?
Anyone ever done a hardwire light installation? I got some nifty track lighting and I already diagramed where I'm going to put it. There's an existing (old, ugly) florecent fixture there, and I know I can screw up the tracks myself. So the only quesion is - do I need an electrician to do the wiring?
Unless someone tells me this is super easy and I have no chance of setting my place on fire or killing myself, I'll probably just call an electrian. Thoughts?

i'd go with the electrician route unless you're confident in what you're doing.
Also do you need to consider the load that the new lighting would put on your existing circuit? friends of ours moved into a flat and had no end of problems with the lighting because of the new lights the owner had put in tripping the fuses.

actually, the installation is super easy. if you are unsure which breaker cuts power to the fixture turn them all off when you do the work.
there are only three wires. as long as you connect like colored wires together along with the green ground wire and cap them off you shouldnt have any problems.
(contractors like to rip you off. diy is always the way to go if possible)

Ahem. My daddy is a contractor.(contractors like to rip you off. diy is always the way to go if possible)
(If I asked him, he'd help me. It wouldn't cost me money, only emotional strain.)
I may take you up on that. It's not plumbing, so maybe I can trust you.if you have any questions pm me. I'd be glad to help.

It did occur to me more than once during the process that Jason or I or both could die. That's why I let him do the bit with the wires.squeezle hates it when I do electrical work. She just knows that I'll shock the shits out of myself.

And yeah, I have two refrigerators, but it's only because I can't bear to get rid of the pink one.
How come "fridge" has a "d" in it but "refrigerator" doesn't?
