That's funny, because when people speak of Asians here, they generally mean Indian Sub-Continent folk. Confused the hell out of me for about a year.I think you mean Orientals. Orientals live in the country of Asia.the asian-race people
Yeah, well if I heard a redneck in a gas station say it I wouldn't have thought it was thread-worthy. But a news orginization? Sheesh!Bad Geography doesn't exist in a vaccuum; it permeates society....
oh I'm still explaining the difference to friends over there..."no, we say native american, indians are from india...etc.".That's funny, because when people speak of Asians here, they generally mean Indian Sub-Continent folk. Is "oriental" more (or less) acceptable there (to distinguish indo-asians from east-asians)?That's funny, because when people speak of Asians here, they generally mean Indian Sub-Continent folk. Wow. I didn't realize it was still in common usage over there. I found most people in Asia hated the term "oriental". ("I'm not a rug!") They preferred asian or, like you said, their country of origin.yeah, although they generally prefer to use the actual country that their from....you hear oriental but mostly i hear people refer to people as japanese, chinese, thai, etc...
yeah. maybe it was just the heat of the moment. Now I'm thinking we should give NBC 5 the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is an oblique reference to Asia, the band, and the "country" is purely a state of mind.
