Okay, so this is kind of important to me, in a weird way.

I have made the decision to break my seemingly inexplicable ban on The Soft Bulletin, but I have a question or two to ask before I do.

First and foremost, why should I listen to it? Secondly, what do you recommend as the ideal listening environment? Finally, what should I expect?

Your feedback is essential, in a way.

anything you say could potentially be republished somewhere, so be nice, i know how surly you forkers can be

1) Credibility. Even if you don't like it, to not have heard it and claim to be any sort of music writer makes me not to want to take anything you say seriously, even if you're right. Despite the hype, it IS a landmark album especially from the production sense, and it brought Pro Tools into the prominent mixing programme. And it does have some amazing tunes.

The ideal listening environment is headphones at a medium-loud volume, particularly to hear all of the stuff going on, and more importantly, the spaces between the music.

I don't know what you would expect now. There is so much out there now that have drawn from it that it may not seem that great now. But try and transport yourself back to when it was released. There was nothing like it at the time; it truly started something.

Good luck on your adventure.

don't listen to it. It sucks. And no, I'm not being surly or facetious: I do not like it. I think the Lips reached their pinacle when the were the second opening act for Tool behind Failure back in the mid-90's.

yes, but you've listened to it, and then formed an opinion.

After a few years of listening to radio drivel with my first full-time job and rush hour commute, this album reminded me that there was still great music out there.

don't forget there are 2 versions of the album, we didn't get the spiderbite song in the uk (we got slow motion instead) and the running order is different. never worked out why but it throws me out if i pick up amy's copy.

i don't know why, for something so fun to do, zaireeka gets so much criticism. It's something special and really enjoyable.

I thought their earlier stuff was interesting...then I just got bored. but that's just my feeling about it. I have listened to more recent stuff tho and it's ok.
