instead of making some sort of bold social statement that makes America look bad, why doesn't mexico actually take some time and make their country LIVEABLE and not a place that people want to flee by the thousands?

That takes money. Civil rights are free.
p.s. You really think they did it to make America look bad?
p.p.s. Mexico is in America.

1. Marriage is not a civil right.
2. Not necessarily, but Mexico doesn't really care much for America. Even though, of course, we pretty much take care of their poor.
3. Pedantic points for you

1. Marriage is not a civil right.
er, yes it is.
Article 16
Part 1: Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.
i can see that it might be interpreted as only "men and women" have the right. however, when you consider Article 2:
Part 1: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
and that is all i shall contribute to this matter.
