Planting trees

I went to a luncheon yesterday that featured this
Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Among other inspirational things about empowering women and protecting the earth, she said it takes 10 trees to covert carbon dioxide into oxygen for a typical human -- so we should all plant 10 trees.
Aside from some bushes, I don't think I have ever planted a real tree.
Where can you plant a tree, except for on land that you own??

a common bar/bat mitzvah or wedding present is having a tree planted in someones name in israel. they started the program to replenish the forest after it got burned in wars. i think its a cool idea, and a lot better than getting a star named after you or something. so i think there are 3 or 4 Dalya trees in jerusalem. i guess I'm all set for air as long as I don't live too long.
didn't coldplay (or ws it u2) do something where they figured out the amount of carbon emissions that printing their cd would create and they planted enough trees to counteract it? i read that somewhere and I thought that was cool. business should have to something like that to counteract their externalities

Check with the city. The tree will need to be watered after it's planted and until it is established so it has to be somewhere where it can get water. You could try the highway department, too, but they might have a liability issue.
Then there's the
Arbor Day Foundation.

Finally, someone cuts to the heart of the matter. God wouldn't have made trees if he didn't want us to chop the fuck outta them.

I planted almost 100 seedlings 2 years ago on Arbor day. They all died though, does it still count?

I know a guy who did the tree-planting thing one summer in Canada. Apparently, it's hard work. I'm never going to find this picture, but there was one of this guy doing that who was sitting against a fence eating a sandwich only that he had fallen asleep after taking one bite and the sandwich was hovering right in front of his face.
