Superman II: The Richard Donner cut

Postby Doomius » Wed Oct 18, 2006 3:18 pm

If anyone is as big of a Superman geek as I am, then you already know about this. If not, I'll break it down real quick.

Superman: The Movie was originally directed by Richard Donner (The Goonies, all those Lethal Weapon Films) and was suppose to direct Superman II. Halfway through production, he was fired by the producers and replaced by Richard Lester (A Hard Days Night). Lester removed most of Donner's footage and filmed more than 70% of the completed film. On November 28, a whole new edit of the movie (not an extended cut, or special edition) It will be an almost entirely new movie.

I have always thought that Superman II and Rocky II are both similar in that most people mistakenly think that Richard Pryor/Mr T are in that one, but they are really thinking of the third movie. This makes me think that it can only be good news that there is a new cut out.

You know what I get messed up on? The music. I'm always confusing the Superman, Star Wars and Indiana Jones film scores.

I hear one of the first few notes and I blurt out "HEY! IT'S SUPER STAR JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF THE JEDI III!!"

Thank you John Williams. I'm sure someone has mixed or mashed these together.
