new chevy commercial

I saw that commercial tonight, and I was in utter shock! I can't believe the depths to which this consumer nation has sunk. And John Mellencamp! I never much liked his music, but I used to respect him as a person of integrity. So much for that.
I hope there is a backlash the likes of which Chevrolet has never seen. I for one will be letting them know just how effective their advertising approach has been with me.

How is shoving a bald eagle up someone's ass patriotic? He has his part to play and he is getting paid for it.Toby Keith is awesome. He told Stephen Colbert that he would shove a bald eagle up hollywood's ass if they tried to change him. He is in some movie.Compared to the Toby Keith/Ford Truck duo I would say this is downright subtle.
I meant that he plays the part of the pompous and self-righteous asshole, kick-ass U-S-A country-fied version. He is paid well by record labels and advertising companies to play this role because so many of us want to be pompous and self-righteous assholes but this PC world won't let us. He may genuinely be a pompous and self-righteous asshole or a total faker, but it doesn't really matter. In short, Hollywood (via Nashville) won't try to change him because they made him.

now we just need hot ex-marines to star in movies with the word "father" in the title so we can all cry and stare at the flag and think about our grandpa and how he "fought" in WWII by running the telegraph machine on a ship in the phillipines, and how all the people who died on September 11th were war veterans and are looking down on Iraq and smiling, and how the dixie chicks are blasphemers, and how gay marriage is the reason Sadam hates us, and how good things used to be in the 50s before the negro got to vote and before elvis swung his groin around on tv and before women wore pants.
suggested titles:
"guns of our fathers"
"our fathers dreams"
"my father the hero" (oh, that's taken)
"our fathers' fathers"
"do it for father"
"fathers and sons"
"my father didnt go crazy in nam so that you lazy asses could let osama blow us all up"

I was thinking last night about this and remembered an assignment I did for class once analyzing a car advertisement. It seemed like a pretty run-of-the-mill ad, but when I started to analyze it I realized that what it essentially said was,
"If you love your children you will buy this car."
and
"If you were a remotely intelligent person, you wouldn't be driving anything else."
I find this a lot; there is a lot of every day advertising that we don't even think about. When you do, you find that it's really very manipulative.
