I Say "Mid" You Say "-Term Elections!"

The Dems better get to work quickly, and the first thing they need to do is FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY STAND. It's obvious they didn't so much win elections as much as the Republicans lost. I love the American Voting System because people wake up from time to time and hold people accountable. Yes, there is the war, but remember the "Contract With America" in 1994? They lost sight of that entirely, embracing the big government and outspending their predecessors like crazy. In other words, they lost the plot.We did it! Pelosi is the first women and the first Californian Speaker of the House! WOOT WOOT![]()

Now let's get to work!
and no I am NOT happy California kept Arnold S. *shakes fist*
so we're tied for the Senate...but there may be recounts I think....*fingers crossed*
The Dems did the right things in the right places. Heath Shuler (yeah, the QB) ran as a Dem in western NC and won, but his views are pretty central. They seem to have a lot of new centrist blood, and that's important to win middle America. But now they have to formulate a platform.
You could have a LOT worse than Arnold. I don't live there so I don't know, but from what I have read he has cleaned up quite a bit of Gray Davis' mess. Sorry, but that guy was a crook, and got what he deserved. Dems will need a stronger candidate to unseat Arnold, because not only is he popular, he is actually quite smart politically. Which is probably why he and the president don't get along

I don't think the Senate matters much other than icing on the cake. The House was the main one...they were the ones that gave Bush everything he wanted. The Senate, and even especially some Republican Senators, were often roadblocks for him. Either way, there's now no way Bush can get anything by without getting it by McCain first, which is a bit more trustworthy.
Oh, and then there's the war. Idiots...

I agree that this election was primarily a referendum on W, Iraq and recent Congressional fuck-ups. The Dems have a 6 point plan and a platform, but they haven't been able to communicate what all that means in a concise and convincing way....The Dems better get to work quickly, and the first thing they need to do is FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY STAND...
