that's because all those old, white, republican men are afraid of the buttsecks ... or should i say, afraid they might like it
Or maybe not. Seems a broadcast memo when out to all republicans and they "agree" with this move.

It's not a real pardon, and yes in a twisted kind of way I do respect it. Bush & Co. threw this man under the bus once already. He did their dirty work, and he took the heat for crimes perpetrated by people higher up. He was a good soldier, and commanders are supposed to look out for their soldiers, a trait Bush has never before displayed. Now, if he would just turn his attention to those soldiers who are actually being shot at and killed, that would be great. So you respect this pardon?
And I'm sure Scooter's ass isn't the only one Dubya was concerned about. Two years in prison gives a man lots of time to think...and remember...and write a book.

p.s. BTW, I do think this was an unbelievably stupid move, politcally. It may just be the straw that breaks what party support he has left. And that suits me just fine. Dumb motherfucker.
Call me new school, but I disagree with the premise that Bush is doing this out of any type of protection or loyality for Libby (even though I would still find it immoral).
I like connecting things.
yes, it is common for presidents to pardon (not commute). besides clinton did not orchestrate the crime that the pardoned. and rich's crimes did not endanger the lives of others. and by commuting the sentence, bush is acknowledging that there was a crime, but just doesn't think his buddy should have to serve time.

i was at the airport watching cnn when this was announced and said "oh my fucking god" out loud and everyone aorund me looked at me like i was crazy so i pointed to the tv and this one guy just shrugged.
even more crazy than him doing that, is the fact that hardly anybody noticed.

i think they just don't care. nobody showed any reaction, so i deduced that they had no idea who libby even is or what he did. when there was a story about tiger woods everyone paid attention.Or maybe just nobody wanted to engage a "crazy" person at the airport who appropriately reacted to some stupid bullshit.
the only times i remember people actually paying attention to the news were during the OJ trial and after 9/11. i'm glad i had teachers in highschool who drilled into me the importance of watching the news and listening to npr, and why knowing what's happening is important.

he would just go in front of the pearly gates and tell whatever saint is there that god must have misspoken when he said that one.Yeah, you'd think a man facing a seriously life threatening health condition would be a little more concerned with getting into heaven.
