Re: hai guys
thanks for not replying to a single thing i said, mr. j. i feel like you're always baiting, asking questions, throwing out ideas for reactions, and then when people actually take the time to write out a long and thoughtful reply, you ignore it completely.
i believe gay marriage is unfortunately, as justin said, a religious issue to many americans. many religions preach that being gay is "wrong" (in catholocism, it's more of a "hate the sin, not the sinner" kind of thing, so it's the actual gay act of lovemaking that's considered a sin) and many people are unable to separate their religious beliefs from their politics. fundamentally, our government is supposed to be FREE of religion. church and state are supposed to be separate.
replace "gay marriage" with any other issue of the same nature. if black people and white people weren't allowed to get married, it'd be considered a HUGE civil rights infraction. if people over 35 and people under 25 weren't allowed to get married, there'd be riots. a lot of folks try to get around this issue by saying that being gay as a choice whereas race is not. i couldn't disagree more with this idea, but that aside, isn't the whole point of america that you are able to make your own choices with what to do with your life as long as it doesn't negatively affect other people?
i don't understand why anyone would be against gay marriage. i just don't get it. i don't see how someone else's decision to marry someone of the same gender can even affect you at all. why would you want to tell someone else that they can't marry the person that they love? fear? hate of others? hate of self? i really, truly, honestly don't understand it.
i don't think the government should be able to sanction marriage for most people, really, but i think everyone should have access to civil unions and the benefits, rights, and acknowledgments that go along with that. as biden said in the vp debate, they don't want to make gay marriage legal, but they want to make sure that gay couples and straight couples have the same exact rights as defined by law and leave marriage up to individual faiths. as long as legally, gay couples and straight couples have the same rights in the eyes of the law, i think we're good.

Re: hai guys
according to loving v. virginia, marriage IS a right.
and i agree with what katie said.
same sex couples are being denied their BASIC CIVIL RIGHT to marry. if there is a supreme court case coming up, they will have to fall in line with the loving v. virginia decision and grant gays their right to marry.Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival....
and i agree with what katie said.

i don't like how feminism has such negative connotation. in my history class, our group is doing a presentation on the feminist movement, how it has evolved over the years and who are key members of the feminist movement, etc. when it was announced to the class what topic each group was doing, i noticed that when ours was announced a lot of people groaned.
like, what the hell. i guess when people think of feminists they picture hairy lesbians who hate men and want to take over the world or some shit.
