How come "fridge" has a "d" in it but "refrigerator" doesn't?
I was wikipedia-ing the hell out of that question before you posted that!!!

I don't know where it comes from and haven't found much. I have a hunch it has something to do with Marcel Audiffren's patent in 1895 and the french word réfrigérateur but I'm just grabbing at straws.
