It's been eerily quiet.

Is this just the calm before a storm, or has everyone run over to Facebook?

Not I. I draw the line at one social networking site at a time.

At dinner last night, a dear friend told us she plays Scrabble against the computer -- but keeps her dictionary handy, not to challenge, but to verify her ideas or look up possibilities.

I say that's cheating. What do you think?

After playing a daily Trivial Pursuit game with her (one question per morning, based on a third friend's calendar), the other friend and I found out she used Yahoo/Google to find answers. . . and totally believed there was nothing wrong with that!

P.S.
It is a bit quiet around here. Come on you students -- ignore your studies and speak up!

Word builders are a no-no. Using a dictionary to verify is okay.
At least according to the agreement you have to check when you go through scrabulous direct.

Googling for Trivial Pursuit though... that's totally cheating!

Well said, I agree. This is what I would say.

apparently, one of my friends uses a generator where you put in your letters and it tells you what words you can make. and thinks that's not cheating.

dictionary for verification is okay, that's why they include the dictionary there. googling "words ending in 'ez'" is not.

and i've been posting here more than ever, so the slump isn't my fault. um... or is it?

that's equivalent to ricky gervais in the office trying to have an intellectual discussion with someone and sneaking off to look up google every time the guy gets him into a corner.

p.s. the reason I've not been posting, apart from school, is this

I love this bit from the web page:
Interstellar Travel; Conclusion - NOTE: When discussing special relativity - CS-350 - the statement that a student could travel to Sirius and be back by Fall 2007 is WRONG. 17.4 years will have elapsed on Earth - though only 3 months on the student's own clock - Sorry about the error. A cosmic ray must have zapped my brain at the moment I was speaking. Alex

Cosmic ray, hahah, what a joker! :D

Cool that you can get the lectures free though.

I just thought it was funny that he is like a uber intelligent astronomy guy and when he made a mistake he was like... d'oh, must have been hit in the brain by a cosmic ray.
