Got a sewing machine recently, so I've been doing a test project this weekend. (see above)
It has actually taken the shape of a messenger bag now.

Messenger bag, excellent! It needs some sort of quick-draw fork holster.

I'm hand stitching the skull & forks now. What a bitch. Oh well, it will be worth it. It might need some detail worked in on the skull or contrasting thread.
I'll have to see if I can work in a quick draw fork holster.
